Made with 100% chicken breast meat

Are you a Chicken McNuggets® or Crispy Chicken Wrap fan? Do you prefer Chicken Selects® or a Grilled Chicken Salad? We only use chicken breast meat across our entire chicken range.

Simply delicious

Take our Chicken McNuggets®. First the chicken breast meat is chopped to make them easier to shape and eat. Then they’re coated twice - once with a light batter and then with a thicker one called 'tempura'. Our teams then cook each McNugget® till they’re as golden as that one sunny day in an Irish Summer. Served nice and hot, the way the perfect McNugget® should be. At McDonald’s, there’s always a good story behind our food.

From farm to restaurant

We’re proud of the suppliers we use and we won’t work with anyone who does not adhere to our own high standards of animal welfare, as well as those required by EU legislation.

Why is this important? Because great tasting food made with quality ingredients is one of our top priorities. So if suppliers don’t meet these standards, we don’t work with them.

Though we’re proud of the work we’ve done so far, we know we can do more and we are committed to sourcing chicken with improved welfare outcomes.

Working with our suppliers

Together with our suppliers, we work hard to focus on continuous improvement and have led the industry with positive moves on chicken welfare. We are proud to have daylight provision and enrichment for all birds in our supply chain, for all chicken served in our Irish and UK restaurants. This means providing pecking objects and perches to encourage the birds to express their natural behaviours.

While we are proud of the work we’ve done so far, we recognise that there is more that we can do. We’re committed to sourcing chicken with improved welfare outcomes. For us in Ireland and the UK, this means taking a joined up approach, including the environmental, ethical and economic sustainability of our supply chain. We strongly believe in this approach, which provides a direct assessment of the quality of life chickens experience throughout their lives. Our approach is underpinned by innovation and research. For example, we are working with Queen’s University, Belfast on research with leading animal welfare experts. It is this approach that we believe will truly drive continuous improvement.

Improving the sustainability of our chicken

We’ve been on a journey to enhance our chicken sourcing requirements – from launching our chicken welfare commitments to supporting the development of alternative protein feeds as part of our journey to become deforestation free. But we know there’s more to do and we’re committed to improving the resiliency and the sustainability of our chicken supply chain.

McDonald’s approach to chicken welfare is focused on welfare outcomes. Welfare outcomes are objective measures which provide a direct assessment of the welfare chickens experience throughout their lives.

As part of our commitment to eliminate deforestation from our global supply chains, soy volumes used to feed chickens in our supply chain are traced back to low-deforestation priority regions or comply with the certification requirements of either ProTerra or Round Table on Responsible Soy (RTRS) certification standards. Alternatively RTRS Credits are purchased in lieu of physical supply of soy products. Find out more about conserving forests here.
