Voluntary Recall of 1.4 Million Shrek-Themed glasses in Canada
06-04-2010
TORONTO, ON (June 4, 2010) - In collaboration with Health Canada and as a precautionary measure, McDonald's Restaurants of Canada Limited today issued a voluntary recall of its four Shrek Forever After™ glasses.
Customers are asked to stop using the glasses and invited to contact our dedicated, bilingual customer service centre at 1-877-495-5502, or visit www.mcdonalds.ca for details on product return and refund procedures.
McDonald’s safety standards are among the highest in the industry and the company has a strong track record. There have been no reports of illnesses related to the use of these glasses.
It is important to note that the glasses were evaluated by an independent third-party laboratory and determined to be fully in compliance with all applicable Canadian requirements at the time of manufacture and distribution.
However, upon learning of the evolving assessment of standards for cadmium in consumer products in the United States, McDonald’s Canada decided in an abundance of caution that a voluntary recall of the Shrek Forever After glassware was the appropriate course of action.
McDonald’s Canada has a longstanding, cooperative relationship with Health Canada, and continues to work with them as testing protocols evolve and new scientific information becomes available.
The well-being of our customers is our top priority. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but product safety and quality at McDonald’s will not be compromised.
