Why is McDonald's called McDonald's?

Let us tell you a little story. Brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald first opened a burger restaurant in San Bernardino in California in 1940. They called it the 'Speedee Service System', offering great tasting food, served incredibly quickly. Just like we do today. McDonald's as we know it began in 1955 when Ray Kroc opened his first restaurant in Illinois, inspired by the McDonald brothers' restaurant and thus, gave the restaurant their now famous name. McDonald's opened its first restaurant in the U.K. in Woolwich, south London, in October 1974. We've never looked back.
