About

Before McDonald’s

I’ve worked for McDonald’s for over 20 years. I started as a Trainee Manager and took my first franchise in 2017.

My connection with McDonald’s

It’s not the sort of place where there’s a ‘typical day’ – it keeps you on your toes! Every conceivable change and investment is made by tried and tested rigorous strategy. McDonald’s really is a safety net, from the supply chain right through to the early morning cleaners.

What inspired me to become a McDonald’s Franchisee

I’m well versed in how McDonald’s has evolved, so I was already sold on the business! I bought from a Franchisee who wanted to relocate, so there was an established set-up in place. Together with this one, I bought another restaurant from the company. I was fortunate to be given the opportunity as this is fairly uncommon for new Franchisees, so I was very grateful.

Top insight

Financially, there’s a lot to commit to, especially for women – as many of us don’t have the same capital to invest so readily. You do need to be ‘all-in’. The first few months are obviously tough but that’s where the support comes in. I live by the mantra of looking after my people; if you’re committed, they’ll always reward you.

My growth

By my first Christmas I had three restaurants, before growing to five in three years. It’s about growing successfully.
