You need a Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) enabled device. Most newer laptops have built-in Wi-Fi capabilities. Older versions may require a separate Wi-Fi card, which you can purchase at most larger electronics retailers. Any chip or card that has been certified for compliance with the Wi-Fi wireless LAN standard (IEE 802.11b) can be used. More and more PDAs and even cell phones are now Wi-Fi enabled. A manufacturer or service provider can help you identify these devices.

Yes. Most Virtual Private Network (VPN) software running on a notebook computer that is configured for DHCP is compatible with Wayport's network. If your company allows remote access into the corporate network, then you may connect. If your company has a VPN (Virtual Private Network), you should be able to run your VPN or secure tunneling client software over your Wayport connection. Wayport provides fully routable/public IP addresses so that VPN connections should be seamless. Wayport does not block any ports except incoming port 80 and port 139, the netbios port (VPNs do not use these ports). Wayport's network will support any VPN technology, which is Internet Protocol Version 4 (Ipv4) compliant (this information can be obtained from the users’sIT department). Most VPNs will meet this requirement.

Wayport's high-speed Internet access is up to 50 times faster than standard dial-up service. Data-transfer rates are up to 11 Mbps for wireless access, however, they also depend upon on the underlying transport rate. With Wayport, a typical 20 Mb download takes less than 2 minutes, whereas the same download would take between 47 minutes and one-and-a-half hours with a standard dial-up connection.

Wayport does not enable WEP (Wired Equivalency Protection) on any of the wireless equipment used in their networks. Therefore, no special keys are required to use Wayport's wireless Internet access. WEP encryption is not yet practical for a public access network, due in part to the absence of a standardized method for relaying encryption keys between different manufacturers' equipment. The Wayport system supports secure Virtual Private Network (VPN) access. If your company has a VPN, Wayport recommends that you connect via the VPN for optimum security. Wayport also encourages its users to observe standard security practices, such as ensuring that computer hard drives are not shared. |

Typically, the whole lobby and/or dining area has good coverage. In most restaurants, you should also be able to get a good signal in the parking lot outside the dining area. The precise signal coverage varies depending on exact restaurant layout and the surrounding environment.
