McDonald’s is a global family of local restaurants. More than 73% of them are operated by approximately 5,920 local businessmen and women around the world. McDonald’s in the community means:
- Local employment opportunities.
- New opportunities for local suppliers.
- Investments in the community, through construction and renovation.
- More revenues for local public projects and services.
In 1990, McDonald's Russia invested $45 million (USD) to construct and equip a food processing and distribution center in Moscow. Today, more than 75 percent of the raw ingredients used to supply McDonald's Russian restaurants are purchased from more than 100 independent local suppliers. |

Since McDonald's Brazil opened its first restaurant, in 1979, it has become a significant force in the country's economy. To gain a better understanding of its contributions, the company commissioned two studies by GV Consult—the consulting arm of a prominent public and business administration institute. According to the latest study, in 2003, McDonald's activities in Brazil, including exports to other markets:
- Added $701 million (USD) to Brazil's economy.
- Provided 66,000 jobs, directly and through the stimulus of its purchases.
- Generated more than $208 million (USD) in taxes, including those paid by suppliers.
McDonald's USA has been working with Professor Dennis H. Tootelian of the College of Business Administration at California State University, Sacramento to measure the economic impacts of our restaurants on U.S. communities. - Had a combined investment in their communities of more than $3.6 billion.
- Created, directly and through their purchases of goods and services, nearly 450,705 jobs.
- Generated more than $6.3 billion in spending.
- Paid more than $231.3 million in taxes, not including income taxes.
- Generated more than $1.3 billion in additional taxes through the jobs they created and their other expenditures.
